    Dr. Shafaai Musa was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee (SC) for Public Islamic Bank Berhad in June 2022 (effective date 14 June 2022). He obtained his first degree in Shariah from Al-Azhar University. He then completed his Master’s Degree in Comparative Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Ph.D. from Glasgow Caledonian University.

    Dr. Shafaai served IIUM for 26 years where he started his career in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws. He then served as the Head of Department of Islamic Law for three years from 2002 and in 2004, he was conferred Associate Professor by IIUM.

    Prior to joining Public Islamic Bank Berhad in 2022, Dr. Shafaai had served Commerce International Merchant Bankers (CIMB) Group for 16 years:
    • Chairman of the SC, Southern Bank Berhad
    • Member of the SC, Commerce Tijari Bank Berhad
    • Chairman of SC, Commerce Takaful Berhad (later known as CIMB Aviva Takaful).
    • Member of the SC, CIMB Islamic Bank
    • Chairman of SC, CIMB Islamic Bank
    Dr. Shafaai was also appointed as Chairman of the Reinsurance Group of America Retakaful, where he served from 2009 to 2022. He was also the Chairman of the SC for Sunlife Malaysia Takaful Berhad from 2013 until 2021.

    YM Ustaz Engku Ahmad Fadzil was appointed as the Shariah Committee member for Public Islamic Bank Berhad in April 2020. He holds a Master Degree in Islamic Judiciary from University of Jordan and accomplished his Bachelor Degree in Laws and second Degree in Shariah Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

    YM Ustaz Engku Ahmad Fadzil was appointed as an advocate and solicitor at the High Court of Malaya in 1995. He was also a lecturer at IIUM from 1994 until 2014 and his areas of specialization are Law of Successions, Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Criminal Laws.

    Previously, YM Ustaz Engku Ahmad Fadzil was a member of the fatwa research panel of Jabatan Mufti Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan and a Senior Fellow at the Institut Kajian Strategik Islam Malaysia. In addition, he formerly served as a Shariah Committee member of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad from 2005 until 2020.

    Apart from being a Member of the Shariah Committee of Public Islamic Bank Berhad, he serves as a member of the Shariah Committee for Bank Pertanian Malaysia Berhad (Agrobank) and AIA PUBLIC Takaful Berhad. End of 2020, he was appointed as a member of the Fatwa Committee Member for the State of Pahang.

    En. Wan Abdul Rahim Kamil was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee Public Islamic Bank Berhad in April 2022. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking Economics, from the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Economics in North Cyprus (Collaboration program with Al-Azhar University, Cairo). He had also obtained his Professional Membership from the Institute of Statisticians of United Kingdom (UK) which is currently affiliated with the Royal Statistical Society in UK.

    With almost 40 years in the Islamic financial-services industry in Malaysia, En. Wan Abdul Rahim Kamil speciality is particularly in Islamic Capital Market. He has been an Islamic Capital Market consultant for many financial institutions in various jurisdictions.

    En. Wan Abdul Rahim Kamil started his career in Islamic finance at Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad and its subsidiaries from 1983 until 1994. He then served as the Chief Executive Officer of Abrar Discounts Berhad until 2006. Since 2007, he has been engaged in advisory and capacity building programmes for investors and capital market intermediaries through institutions such as the Securities Commissions Malaysia (SC) and the Securities Industries Development Corporation (SIDC).

    He is actively involved in the development of sukuk and other capital market products; and contributed to the creation of the first sukuk issued by Shell MDS Sdn Bhd in 1990 – a first for Malaysia and globally.

    Since 2015, he has been a member of the Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA) and part of the Panel of Experts (FPE) for capital markets.

    En. Wan Abdul Rahim Kamil  was also a consultant for several international projects, including:
    • The Egypt Financial Services under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the development of sukuk masterplan under the US Aid sukuk and bond market development project for Egypt.
    • Development of Islamic finance for Republic of Tatarstan, and the Russian Federation.
    • Development of Islamic banks and takaful financial industries in Mauritius, Gambia, Somalia, Sri Lanka and Nigeria.

    Dr. Syed Musa was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee (SC) for Public Islamic Bank Berhad in November 2022. He holds a Diploma in Business (Financial Option) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore and obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with first-class Honours from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He then completed his Doctorate in Business Administration (Accounting and Finance) at the Strathclyde University, United Kingdom.

    Dr. Syed Musa began his career as an academic staff at the Kuliyyah of Economics and Management since 1989 in IIUM and continued his academic career at UNITAR in 2000. Then in 2009, he served in Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) up to 2012 before receiving an offer to serve as the Associate Professor at the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIBF), IIUM up to today. He had also served as a Principal Consultant with Amanie Business Solutions and International Institute of Islamic Finance Inc from 2005 to 2009.

    Prior to joining Public Islamic Bank Berhad, Dr. Syed Musa had served in several Shariah Advisory roles as follows:

    Associate Professor Dr. Marhanum Che Mohd Salleh was appointed as a member of Shariah Committee (SC) for Public Islamic Bank Berhad in November 2023. She holds a Bachelor Degree (First Class) from University of Malaya (UM) with specialization in Shariah and Management with distinction. She continued her studies in Msc Islamic Finance at International Islamic University Malaysia in 2008, then pursued her Ph.D in Business Administration specializing in Islamic Banking and Takaful at the same university in 2009 under fellowship scheme.
     
    Associate Professor Dr. Marhanum began her career as an academic staff at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, IIUM. Her areas of expertise include Shariah, Islamic Banking, Takaful, Waqf, Islamic Marketing, and Fintech. She has published her works in highly reputable local and international journals and books.
     
    Prior to joining Public Islamic Bank Berhad, Associate Professor Dr. Marhanum had served in several Shariah Advisory roles as follows:
